Life ever have you so preoccupied that you wake up one day a realize that you have not taken the time to take pleasure in the activities you once loved and made a regular part of your routine? Like riding your bike, reading a book, going to the gym, traveling,…even cooking for goodness sake! – all of the non-stressful or emotionally fun things that you once enjoyed?

If you are like me, this has happened more than once - and each time, although I can make excuses as to why I don’t have the time, and how those activities that I once loved are less important or childish… the longer time passes I slowly realize that I am losing myself and allowing the stresses of the world rain on my lust for fun and erode my appreciation for – LIVING life. Like an old bucket of rusty nails that once were bright and shiny and primed to tackle your next project now rusty, they have no real utility as their once strong and durable essence, has been rusted down to flakes and bits of metal vaguely resemble what the original nail looked like.

One instance in particular is when a sudden thought of “roller-skating” popped into my mind and had me feverishly tearing up every closet, nook, and cranny of my house looking for my skates. Now, while I am the athlete (still holding on to that High School claim to fame LOL) and can skate in rollerblades or whatever you give me, my FAVE skates are the “old-school 4-wheel-take-me-back-to-my-skating-ring-days,” skates! YAS!

Back in the day, I was a WHOLE unofficial, official, on-the-weekends-only, professional skater – they didn’t call me the “Limbo Champ” of 1992-1995 for nothing! LOL, I’m just saying I was GOOD! …you would think I invented roller derby or something!... I’m just saying. 

But anyways,… as I laced up my skates and took the first roll on the hardwoods in my house (my mom is still shaking her head at me to this day), as soon as that back right set of wheels hit the ground, Ooompf, let’s just say that hardwood floors are indeed… hard.

As I, like a wobbly newborn giraffe taking its first steps, attempted to get up off of the floor and do a “bruise check,  I realized that I was shamefully rusty at something that I had once taken the time to learn, to improve upon, and to grow to genuinely love growing up as a child. All I could wonder was how in the world I let that happen.

Rusty is a piece that represents just that. As you move through your day-to-day, the stresses and responsibilities of life take their toll on your mental health and overall well-being, and often you don’t even realize that you have sacrificed your passions and interests for the sake of everyone and everything that is NOT of yourself.

Rusty reminds you to take a step back, breathe deep, and be mindful of how life impacts you and take steps towards divesting yourself from those activities, people, and limiting beliefs that erode and oxidize your zest for life and set an intention to get back to enjoying those things that bring make your heart happy and excite your spirit.

You should always seek to create a life that satisfies what your soul craves - your mental health, body, and spirit will appreciate it!

What does Rusty evoke within you?

The Mind•Full•Ness® Collection represents the many pieces of me - the good, the fun, and the not-so-fun life experiences that remain as lingering memories of mine or that are a reflection of some innermost facet of my being; while others are just random concepts that for some reason my mind couldn’t resist bringing to fruition and literally can be interpreted as or represent SO many other powerful ideas and concepts life's journey has revealed.

There are so many common, individual objects, things, and baubles that when brought together and placed in this medium of expression - within each face - create what I believe is truly an unexpected but amazingly unique final piece of art.

I’m excited that the Mind•Full•Ness® Collection has piqued your interest and I hope that at least one piece makes you smile or resonates with you in its distinctive way. 

This has been a much-needed therapeutic and reenergizing passion project of mine and I truly feel that it’s helped me process and overcome some of the challenges that have been holding me back while inspiring me to stretch and grow, reclaim my artistic voice, realign my energy and rediscover who I am and what drives me in life.

The Universe provides so many opportunities in the form of challenges and victories and it is what we do with those opportunities to manifest our desired reality that determines our happiness. Instead of what ifs or doubts, let acceptance and gratitude for what IS be at the center of your life and everything else will follow.
